I need to get this message across. I've been push'd aside. Yes, I cried Oh, can you help me move forward, and get through the day? Can't help! Care for me. Your life does not matter much. Only if it pleases me. And, if you can't abide, step aside! Oh, can you help me move forward, and get through the day? Yes, it flows inside. It must move forward! People close to me know how much music flows. It’s a shame when bias and ego washes aside true reality. Vanity? Oh, can you help me move forward, and get through the day? Reflection Will you ever cast aside and step outside yourself to see who I really am? Or, perhaps a better way I could deal with this is just to move forward! Verse 1 I see a future where I can leave all this behind me. Yes, it is hard people I thought were my family had no love. They never cared. Took so long for me. Could not really see their selfish ways. And now I'm free from dealing with their negative bias and false perception as I will move forward. Confusion (second pass) Reflection I can’t see a way you could step outside yourself to see who I really am? Well, perhaps a better way I could deal with this is just to move forward! Verse 2 Day by day I take one more step moving forward. Steps to a dream! With ev'ry note I put down on the page, my pain leaves me. This is my path! Now I'm free to express myself in song. It took so long! And with each day my music grows. It drives me to run to my dream. My music must always move forward. Confusion (third pass) Reflection Wish I could see a way you could step outside yourself to see who I really am? Well, perhaps a better way I could deal with this is just to move forward! Confusion (final pass) Go!   Notes: The initial message sets the tone. “Help me move forward and get through the day” This is a song reflecting personal difficulties moving forward from a challenging period in my life. Much of the traumas from my childhood re-surfaced through more recent and necessary family separation events. Central in the confusion is the presence of a disregarding person, self-absorbed in their own convenience and pleasures. The lyrical structure is in three different parts, Confusion, Reflection and the two Verses. The first part we hear has different lyrics in different parts hopefully to create the effect of confusion. The text in the various parts ring out at times, but the intended effect of the competing lyrics is to generate confusion in the text and messaging. A representation of competing thoughts in my head. The Confusion sections give way to more orderly sections of Reflection in which the Mezzo-soprano has the main text, the Soprano is in descant accompaniment to the Mezzo and the other four parts get into a rhythmic pattern. With the conclusion of the first two Reflections, we come to two hopeful verses, dreaming of outcomes attributable to moving forward in my music. But even as we always try to move forward, the song falls back into sections of confusion, depicting the recurrence of wounding circumstances. Musically, this was my first attempt to write in 6 parts. Confusion separates parts into their own lyrics. However, the men’s parts are much more synchronized, providing a strong rhythmic pulse to tie this section together. In the Reflections, we transition to another rhythmic pattern in the lower four parts, providing instrumentation for the solo and descant parts for Mezzo and Soprano, respectively. With the theme of the two Verses, looking into the joyful future of my dreams, I bring to Alto part out to solo with both Mezzo and Soprano singing descant. Men are back in solid rhythmic accompaniment. The statements in the lyrics are solid and strong. Much in contrast to the Confusion that these dreams give way to at the end of the song, we still always try to rise above it all and Move Forward. “Audio tracks generated with Cantamus software”.
